Josh Gordon has his New Home

Josh Gordon has a new home; he is officially a member of the Seattle Seahawks. Football aside, this is a good landing spot for him to get the help he needs. Pete Carroll is a coach who encourages players and gets the best out of them. From a Fantasy Football perspective, we’re looking at quite the receiving core for Russell Wilson.

Wilson is currently the NFL’s MVP front runner; he’s thrown 17 touchdowns to one interception. Tyler Lockett will still get his. He’s always been a 16 FPPG type player, and he’ll keep with his consistency. Gordon really effects DK Metcalf, or does he? I think Metcalf continues to be a big bodied red zone threat as they work on him in other aspects. Gordon won’t become the number one, I think he’s the teams WR3 and for fantasy purposes is a low end WR3. They’ll take time to work him into the offense, but with Will Dissly going down a few weeks ago, Seattle has needed another toy for Russell Wilson to work with. Wilson is averaging nine yard per attempt which is third in the NFL. If Gordon can get it done on some 50/50 balls, he’ll do just fine. He has gone from the quarterback throwing the ball the third most in the NFL to the 13th most, which does give him a dip in value.

His first game available will be on MNF against the 49ers in Week 10. The 49ers have one of the best secondaries in the NFL and are more beatable on the ground if anywhere. I would expect Seattle’s game plan to not involve Gordon but it’s possible they could get him involved early. After that they’re on bye week so I do not see him as a priority waiver wire add.

I wish the best for Josh Gordon. You never like to see anyone struggle with addiction and he has fought so hard to keep coming back. Sadly though, he is a sell high candidate immediately, if you can. He landed in a good situation with an MVP caliber QB, if you can sell him on WR1 or even WR2 hype I would be. Players I would rather own over him are Marvin Jones, Alshon Jeffery, players in that range. He’s going to be a big help for Seattle but unfortunately owning Josh Gordon in fantasy football does have a history of issues.
