Last year, the week-to-week streamable defenses were included on the Monday night Waiver Wire Wishlist Podcast. For the 2019-2020 season, you’ll find them here, at weknowfantasy.com every Tuesday night.
Now if you followed along last year, you know that this is one of my strong suits, calling the best of the streamable defenses. Many may view this as a rather easy task, but there’s a bit more to it (unless you just play whatever defense is playing the Miami Dolphins this year.)
From each work moving forward, I’ll include how my projections did in the week past. As I did not have a streamable defense article up for Week 1, I have nothing to recap, outside of the fact that I suggested everyone to pick up the Dallas Cowboys’ defense as they played the New York Giants in Week 1 and go on to play Washington and the Miami Dolphins in the next two weeks.
Typically I will include one defense that is owned in at most 50% of leagues and two others that are owned in much less of leagues. Please note that there may be better options on your waiver wire. I’m trying my best to appeal to the masses and help as many people as I possibly can.
Houston Texans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (Owned in 52% of Yahoo & 26% of EPN Leagues)
The Houston Texans are fresh off a heartbreaking defeat to the New Orleans Saints. After scoring a touchdown to go up by one with less than two minutes in the game, the football surgeon Drew Brees picked his way down the field to set up the eventual game-winning field goal.
Luckily for them, they get the chance to host the Jacksonville Jaguars led by either 2019 sixth rounder Gardner Minshew or freshly acquired Joshua Dobbs who has yet to start an NFL game as well.
Expect a lot of turnover chances for the talented Texans’ defense from whomever is under center for Jacksonville. In a game where the visitors could find themselves down early and forced to throw, abandoning the running game, this could turn ugly for Jacksonville.
Tennessee Titans vs. Indianapolis Colts (Owned in 9% of Yahoo & 40% of ESPN Leagues)
The Tennessee Titans are coming off an impressive 30-point beatdown of the hosting Cleveland Browns last week. It was a shock for sure and something not many could see coming. The Titans defense put up 23 fantasy points a week ago.
Now, we can assume this is not going to happen again, but the Titans’ defense has a great chance to post another great fantasy line this week.
On paper, the Andrew Luck-less Indianapolis Colts are not nearly as talented as the Cleveland Browns, who the Titans just blew-out.
Cameron Wake has proven to be a huge addition to the struggling 2018 defense of the Titans, as he posted four quarterback hits against Baker Mayfield. Jacoby Brissett was sacked two times last week. I’m all in on Tennessee this week.
Carolina Panthers vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Owned in 9% of Yahoo & 11% of ESPN Leagues)
This one could very well come back to bite me in the butt. Yes Jameis Winston and the Buccaneers had an awful week one outing. Winston struggled majority, but last year he posted a 145 yard, one TD and two interception game in his first game to only bounce back and put up almost 400 yards and four touchdowns the following week.
I’m a Jameis Winston fantasy truther, and if you follow me, you know that. But I’m not a Tampa Bay Buccaneers truther. They made one of the worst secondaries in the league last week look like one of the best.
They have a poor offensive line that allows for sacks. The 49ers recorded three last week. The 49ers’ secondary literally recorded two interceptions all of last year, they had three on Sunday.
This is a very readily available defense that should be there on your waiver wire for you to stream and play with confidence.
