Alex Galchenyuk, C/LW, Pittsburgh Penguins (14%) - The recent news that teammate Jake Guentzel is out for the remainder of the season, means more ice time opportunities for Gamchenyuk. Over the last three games, Galchenyuk has two goals and two assists. The more important note is his ice time went from 11:39 to 15:11 over that span.
Week 14 Schedule: @VGK, @COL and @ARI.
Nikita Gusev, LW/RW, New Jersey Devils (17%) - “Red Hot” is the proper term when talking about Nikita Gusev as of late. In his past six games, Gusev has registered two goals and six assists to go along with a plus/minus of +3. During that six game stretch the LW/RW eligible Gusev has seen his ice time climb from 12:52 per game to 17:58 per game. That is an eye popping increase to take notice of.
Week 14 Schedule: vs. NYI, @NYR, @WAS and vs. TBL
Jake Virtanen, RW, Vancouver Canucks (11%) - Virtanen is quietly having a very productive season with 12 goals and 23 assists in 40 games. In his last seven games, Virtanen has three goals and four assists. The former sixth overall pick has also benefited from a bump in power play minutes during the month of December
Week 14 Schedule: @TBL, @FLA, @BUF and @MIN.
Sami Vatanen, D, New Jersey Devils (23%) - This waiver wire week is making me look like a Devils' fan. But it’s tough not to include a defenseman that has even assists over the last five games. With primary assists on power plays and overtime winners, Vatanen is a must add. And just another nugget worth noting, his ice time has skyrocketed from 17:04 to 26:47 per game. We all know ice time equals opportunity in the fantasy realm.
Week 14 Schedule: vs. NYI, @NYR, @WAS and vs. TBL
Tony DeAngelo, D, New York Rangers (55%} - The sometimes rugged defenseman plays in every scenario for the Rangers. His ice time is steady game in and game out. However, he is seeing more time on the power play as of late. DeAngelo has one goal, four assists and is a +4 over his passed five games. While some leagues don’t score plus/minus, it is still an indicator of how well a player has played and usually results in increased ice time.
Week 14 Schedule: vs. COL, vs. NJD and @STL
Ilya Samsonov, G, Washington Capitals (25%} - Samsonov is super talented. The only thing preventing him from being the number one goalie of the Capitals is the play of teammate Brayden Holtby. In his last five starts, Samsonov is 4-1, with a 1.71 GAA and a .927 save percentage. He is for sure the future goaltender of the Caps, but for now stash him in the event Holtby falters or sustains an injury that sidelined him.
Week 14 Schedule: vs. OTT, @PHI and vs. NJD
*Note: Ottawa and Philadelphia are back to back, so Samsonov could likely start vs. Philadelphia.
