Fantasy Hockey: Week 2 Waiver Wire

https://www.nhl.com/news/jeff-carter-out-indefinitely-los-angeles-kings/c-292081790

With our first waiver wire article of the season, let’s address the framework for our suggestions this season.

The NHL, using a modified schedule favoring minimum travel, it’s important to note rivalry games are a great incentive for players to play well.

A major criteria for scoping waiver additions is ice time (TOI.) Think of ice time as snap count for waiver claims in fantasy football. Opportunity usually breeds positive results.

Also, we are looking to maximize roster limitations. Players eligible at multiple positions will get preference. So, without further a due, let's get into it!

Jeff Carter, C/LW, Los Angeles Kings - Owned in 27% of Yahoo leagues.

Carter currently has one goal, four assists, plus-three and 16 shots on goal in four games, averaging north of 17 minutes-per-game. The Kings don’t have much offense so they should depend on the veteran Carter to be a main offensive weapon.

Week Two Games: @MIN & @MIN

Joel Ericsson Ek, C, Minnesota Wild - Owned in 10% of Yahoo leagues.

JEE has three goals, two assists, plus-six and 18 shots on goal in five games. Ericsson Ek is averaging 16 plus minutes-a-game, but it’s worth noting over his last two games his TOI is 18:07 and 19:27. So he is trending in the right direction.

Week Two Games: vs. LA, vs. LA , vs. COL & vs. COL

https://thehockeywriters.com/columbus-blue-jackets-bjorkstrand-roster-spot/

Oliver Bjorkstrand, LW/RW, Columbus Blue Jackets - Owned in 59% of Yahoo leagues

With the possibility of Pierre Luc Dubois being traded from the Blue Jackets, Bjorkstrand could see increased ice time on top of his already 17 plus minutes-per-game. On the season he has two goals and three assist (all in the last three games) with 16 shots on net. If Dubois is traded, it’s wheels up for Bjorkstrand.

Week Two Games: vs. FLA, vs. FLA, @CHI & @CHI

Tyler Myers, D, Vancouver Canucks - Owned in 10% of Yahoo leagues

Myers has just one goal and three assists in six games so far this season, but this add is more about the ice time. Myers is averaging over 20 minutes of ice time-per-game. That should stay within that range with several injuries to Vancouver defensemen. It is worth mentioning all of Myers points have come in his last 3 games.

Week Two Games: vs. OTT, vs. OTT Senators, vs. OTT & @WIN

Linus Ullmafk, G, Buffalo Sabres - Owned in 9% of Yahoo leagues

Ullmark has just two appearances this season, both against the Capitals. He has given up five goals and has 48 saves. Ullmark should slide in as the Sabres number one goalie for the time being with Carter Hutton sustaining an undisclosed injury and not traveling with the team. Goalie pickups should be based on opportunities, and it seems Ullmark should get them frequently.

Week Two Games: vs. NYR, vs. NYR, vs. NJ & vs. NJ
