Waiver Wire Pick-ups - Week 12

https://www.yardbarker.com/nba/articles/as_larry_bird_anticipated_pacers_point_guard_aaron_holiday_finding_his_footing/s1_14822_30630386

Week 11 saw our return to the weekly waiver wire suggestions for fantasy basketball after a few week hiatus. It wasn’t the greatest week in terms of suggestions but if you listened to us and added Aaron Holiday or Damion Lee, you did rather well. Heck, even adding Markelle Fultz or Duncan Robinson would have fared well for you. Christian Wood was a little underwhelming this week, but as the Detroit Pistons continue to listen to Andre Drummond offers, he could see a big spike in minutes. Moving forward, keep an eye on the trade market. Players will begin to move soon, opening and removing minutes from players alike across the league. Don’t be stagnant in your leagues, be alert and continue to make moves.

Week 11 Results (Seven Day Average)

Aaron Holiday, PG, Indiana Pacers - 12 PPG, 6.3 APG, 2.3 RPG, 0.3 SPG in 28:4 MPG

Markelle Fultz, PG/SG, Orlando Magic - 11.2 PPG, 4.4 APG, 2.9 RPG, 1.3 SPG in 26:21 MPG

Christian Wood, PF/C, Detroit Pistons - 9.3 PPG, 0.7 APG, 7 RPG in 25 MPG

Ducan Robinson, SG/SF/PF, Miami Heat - 11.8 PPG, 0.8 APG, 3.8 RPG, 0.3 SPG in 25 MPG

Damion Lee, SG, Golden State Warriors - 16 PPG, 2 APG, 7.3 RPG, 0.7 SPG in 33.9 MPG

Week 12 Suggestions

Aaron Holiday, PG, Indiana Pacers - Owned in 36% of Yahoo and 10.4% of ESPN leagues

Week 12 Schedule: @CHA, MIA & @CHI

Holiday was our top addition last week and he’ll be our top addition this week as well. I don’t like to include players in back-to-back articles, but when it comes to players of Holiday’s ability, it’s a must. Excluding the game where he faced foul trouble and played just 22 minutes, he saw 30-plus minutes in seven straight games. Starter Malcolm Brogdon missed just three of those games. It’s now obvious that the Pacers value Holiday as a future star and want to give him as much court time as possible. Again, Victor Oladipo is still about a month out from returning, so there’s plenty of value left there for you to use.

Jordan McRae, PG/SG, Washington Wizards - Owned in 42% of Yahoo and 6.2% of ESPN league

Week 12 Schedule: BOS, @ORL, ATL & UTA

McRae exceeds our 40% owned maximum in Yahoo but is only owned in six-percent of ESPN leagues so I felt that I still could include him. Bradley Beal has recently been in-and-out of the Wizards’ lineup with a leg injury, which has seen McRae seeing more minutes. Now, even when Beal returns, McRae has been playing well enough that he should hold fantasy value, especially for a Wizards’ team desperate for some offensive help. Since McRae’s return from injury, he has averaged 21.2 PPG in 28 MPG. Get this guy onto your roster ASAP!

Aaron Baynes, C, Phoenix Suns - Owned in 33% of Yahoo and 22.5% of ESPN leagues

Week 12 Schedule: SAC, ORL & CHA

Baynes’ production has been a bit of up-and-down since the return of DeAndre Ayton but as of late, he has proven that the two can coexist. At times, the two have started alongside each other, both posting impressive statlines. Over the last two weeks, Baynes has averaged 28:08 MPG. During that time, he averages 12.3 PPG and 7.4 RPG. Honestly, he’s a must own in my opinion, especially in deeper leagues.

Michael Porter Jr., SF, Denver Nuggets - Owned in 38% of Yahoo and 11.6% of ESPN leagues

Week 12 Schedule: @ATL, @DAL, CLE & LAC

Everyone calm down and let’s not be alarmed. It’s finally happening. Michael Porter has burst onto the scene. Porter dropped 25 in a breakout game against the Packers on January 2nd. Prior to that he dropped 19 on the Kings. His minutes keep climbing. Although they’re not where we want them to be consistently and we can’t guarantee the Nuggets are going to continue to give him the minutes we need for fantasy value, now's the time to get on the Porter train before it’s too late.

Darius Garland, PG, Cleveland Cavaliers - Owned in 28% of Yahoo and 10.1% of ESPN leagues

Week 12 Schedule: DET, @DET & @DEN

The Cavaliers are a mess, don't get me wrong, but Garland is the only player they have named untouchable in trade talks. He’s the only player on their roster that is a clear 100-percent part of their future. He’s currently averaging 28.4 MPG and has scored double digits in nine of the Cavaliers’ last 11 games. As the Cavaliers start piecing off their roster during the trade period, his minutes and chances will continue to rise. He’s also still adjusting to the NBA game, which is evident as his assists have consistently been rising across the course of the season.

Christian Wood, PF/C, Detroit Pistons - Owned in 23% of Yahoo and 1.6% of ESPN leagues

Week 12 Schedule: @CLE, CLE & CHI

Again, like Holliday, Wood is a repeat from last week. I really like the potential of him sliding into a starting role alongside Blake Griffin if the Pistons are to trade Drummond, which if they are smart, they will. It may be a few weeks away from happening, but once Drummond is moved, Wood becomes a must owned and maybe even a must start. He’s played just over 20 MPG over the last two weeks and has averaged 11.6 PPG and 5.6 RPG. I’d like to see what he can do with starter minutes.
