Another quality outing for the B-Team this week. We didn’t get to that elusive 100 points but we did have a decent outing with 90.58 fantasy points. Last week we went over 100 fantasy points and the week before we went for 97 points. So, we have three straight weeks of going over 90 points with our make-shift lineup of players owned in less than 40-percent of leagues. Let’s see what Week 6 has in store for us!
This is a series where I construct a hypothetical fantasy football lineup using players that are owned in less than 40-percent of Yahoo and/or ESPN leagues. The goal of the series is to top 100 PPR fantasy points using the make-shift team. The premise is to show that there is readily available value at all times across most waiver wires. You can find last week’s results below.
Trey Lance didn’t have the killer performance he had in Week 4 when taking over for an injured Jimmy Garoppolo. Come to find out, he was injured in that Cardinals’ game. We’ll see what the team does with the quarterback position following their Week 6 bye. Samaje Perine used a receiving touchdown as well as 59 rushing yards in route to 18.3 fantasy points. Khalil Herbert out carried Damien Williams and managed 7.5 fantasy points. Kadarius Toney was our gem of the week with his stellar 189 yard game on 10 receptions before going full MMA and being ejected. Olamide Zaccheaus had just two receptions and Cameron Brate had one. Jamison Crowder caught four balls for 24 yards and the Atlanta Falcons’ defense managed five points against the New York Jets.
Week 5 Results
Trey Lance (San Francisco 49ers) - 15.58 points
Samaje Perine (Cincinnati Bengals) - 18.3 points
Khalil Herbert (Chicago Bears) - 7.5 points
Kadarius Toney (New York Giants) - 29.6 points
Olamide Zaccheaus (Atlanta Falcons) - 4 points
Cameron Brate (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) - 2.2 points
Jamison Crowder (New York Jets) - 8.4 points
Atlanta Falcons - 5 points
Total: 90.58
Week 6 Lineup
Quarterback
Taylor Heinicke (Washington Football Team) - Owned in 27% of Yahoo and 40.7% of ESPN leagues
Week 6 Matchup: vs. KC
There are a few quarterbacks on paper that I’d prefer over Taylor Heinicke but it’s the matchup that puts him in the lead for me of eligible quarterbacks. He and his fellow Football Team (you like that?) get the Kansas City Chiefs this week, who have allowed the most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. Really going out on a limb here, hoping that Heinicke and Washington can keep pace, move the ball and find the endzone. He won’t throw for a ton of yards so he needs a good number of touchdowns to be relevant this week. Let’s hope it pans out.
Runningbacks
Brandon Bolden (New England Patriots) - Owned in 11% of Yahoo and 11.2% of ESPN leagues
Week 6 Matchup: vs. DAL
Runningbacks are slim pickings here in Week 6 during the first round of bye weeks. We’ll go with the new pass catching back in New England after James White has hit the IR. Bolden has had at least six touches in his past two games. He’s also a perfect 10-for-10 in catching targets over the last two weeks. Let’s hope he can get five-plus receptions this week against a stout Dallas Cowboys’ defense. The promising part is that the Patriots will most likely be attempting to keep pace with the Cowboys, therefore looking to pass the ball. Insert Bolden.
Jerrick McKinnon (Kansas City Chiefs) - Owned in 17% of Yahoo and 4.9% of ESPN leagues
Week 6 Matchup: @WAS
Although it’s Darrel Williams’ backfield in Kansas City now that Clyde Edwards-Helaire is set to miss some time, Jerrick McKinnon will be involved. Recently, when talking about the loss of CEH, head coach Andy Reid stated that he’s looking to use a “balanced” attack out of the backfield. McKinnon won’t get the usage that Williams will, but like I’ve previously said in one of my articles (maybe the Waiver Wire Wishlist? I don’t know, I write so many) I want any part of the Chiefs’ offense that is getting any form of quality opportunities. Let’s see how this split works out moving forward.
Wide Receivers
Tim Patrick (Denver Broncos) - Owned in 35% of Yahoo and 39.8% of ESPN leagues
Week 6 Matchup: vs. LV
Tim Patrick has low key been in good form the last three weeks. He has two weeks of 89 yards or more and has a total of 15 receptions coming from 20 targets in that same time span. Outside of his Week 4 tilt with the Baltimore Ravens, Patrick has scored at least 12.7 fantasy points. We need this on the B-Team! He gets a tough matchup this week with the Las Vegas Raiders who have allowed the fifth fewest fantasy points to opposing wide receivers.
T.Y. Hilton (Indianapolis Colts) - Owned in 31% of Yahoo and 20.6% of ESPN leagues
Week 6 Matchup: vs. HOU
The connection we’ve all been waiting for is finally about to happen. Carson Wentz’ deep ball connecting with the speed of T.Y. Hilton. Although he’s lost a step at this later part of his career, he still has some skill left to display. I typically would like to hold off on playing a player fresh off injury or, like in this situation, making his first appearance with his new quarterback, but Hilton isn’t your typical NFL talent. Let’s hope for some magic between the Colts’ veteran and their “new” quarterback.
Tight End
Ricky Seals-Jones (Washington Football Team) - Owned in 27% of Yahoo and 18% of ESPN leagues
Week 6 Matchup: vs. KC
Ahh, the classic Taylor Heinicke/Ricky Seals-Jones fantasy stack. Kidding. However, this week it’s not looking so bad. In his first start after Logan Thomas hit the IR, Seals-Jones played nearly every offensive snap for the Football Team and had three targets in the redzone. As we expect Heinicke to have plenty of chances to move the ball and score against this Chiefs’ defense, we have to assume someone catching his passes has a good week, and Seals-Jones should be one of them. The Chiefs have allowed the fifth most fantasy points to opposing tight ends.
Flex
Amon-Ra St. Brown (Detroit Lions) - Owned in 23% of Yahoo and 9.9% of ESPN leagues
Week 6 Matchup: vs. CIN
Amon-Ra St. Brown has quickly emerged as the Lions’ and Jared Goff’s favorite and top receiver. He’s seen eight targets in consecutive games now and has caught 13 of them. His past two breakout games have been on the road, and now he gets to show the home fans what he’s made of. The Bengals have allowed the 12th most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers as well. I’m expecting 10-plus targets for St. Brown this week.
Defense
Jacksonville Jaguars - Owned in 5% of Yahoo and 4.4% of ESPN leagues
Week 6 Matchup: vs. Miami Dolphins
In the past two games, the Dolphins have scored just 17 points each. Jacoby Brissett has thrown for under 200 yards twice. The Dolphins also have eight turnovers thus far this season, tied for the fifth most in the league. If the Jaguars can continue the trend of keeping the Dolphins in check and record a takeaway or two, they’ll have a decent fantasy outing.
