In three years of this series, this is easily my worst finish, ever. I didn’t record a single point, heck, I recorded a negative point. Insane. This won’t happen again. Let’s get to these Week 9 suggestions. The premise of this article is to bring forth three streamable defenses that fantasy football players should look to use for that respective week. To qualify for this series, defenses must be owned in less than 40-percent of Yahoo and/or ESPN leagues. At least one of the suggested defenses will be owned in less than 10-percent of Yahoo and/or ESPN leagues to cater to every fantasy player. You can find last week’s results below and previous week’s results at the bottom of this article.
Our top option, the Green Bay Packers, laid an egg. They allowed 28 points to Dalvin Cook and company with recording just one sack. That’s it. That’s the entire of their defensive statline for the week. Heck, I had high hopes for the Titans as well and they went and allowed 31 points without recording a single defensive stat relevant to fantasy football. Again, Insane. Of course, the Lions were a long shot being our defense owned in less than 10-percent of leagues but they allowed 35 points to the Colts with recording just two sacks. I think it’s safe to say, we’ll do much better in Week 9.
Week 8 Results
Green Bay Packers vs. Minnesota Vikings - 0 points
Tennessee Titans at Cincinnati Bengals - -1 points
Detroit Lions vs. Indianapolis Colts - 0 points
Week 9 Suggestions
Washington Football Team vs. New York Giants - Owned in 18% of Yahoo and 9.2% of ESPN leagues
Washington is coming off of a bye and prior to that, recorded 17 fantasy points against the Dallas Cowboys. Now they get another favorable match-up in the New York Giants. The Giants have been far from great this year but showed life on Monday Night Football against a good Tampa Bay defense as they put up 23 points. Outside of the Dallas game earlier this season, that was a season high for the New York Football Giants. The Giants have also given up the fifth most fantasy points to opposing defenses thus far this season.
Arizona Cardinals vs. Miami Dolphins - Owned in 14% of Yahoo and 18.8% of ESPN leagues
The Cardinals have a competent defense. They’ll square off with Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins in Arizona this week. Tua threw 22 times last week, completing just 12 passes. To be fair, he didn’t need to do much with his arm against the Los Angeles Rams to get the win. However, this Cardinals’ team has recorded seven turnovers over their last two games. Look for Tua, who is starting just his second game, to give the ball to the Cardinals a time-or-two. Statistically speaking, the Dolphins haven’t allowed many fantasy points to the opposing defense. This of course, was before the change from Ryan Fitzpatrick to Tua.
Houston Texans at Jacksonville Jaguars - Owned in 5% of Yahoo and 2.8% of ESPN leagues
It’s an odd day when I’m suggesting you play the Texans’ defense, but with the way 2020 is going, can you blame me? The Jaguars are rolling out their 2020 sixth round draft selection, Jake Luton, at quarterback. This isn’t going to end well. As the Jaguars already allow the 12th most fantasy points to opposing defenses, look for the struggling Texans to look like a competent defense this weekend.
