Streamable Defenses - Week 8

https://www.mlive.com/lions/2019/10/lions-lb-jarrad-davis-compares-detroits-budding-defense-to-newly-seeded-plant.html

Well, it wasn’t my best outing this past week for the Steamable Defenses of the week. Actually, it was my worst overall week of the year. I did state last week that the choices were slim and there wasn’t much out there. That’s what happens when we choose to stream defenses each week, we hit those weeks where there just isn’t much to play with. Our best choice this week was the New York Giants who posted 10 points. Our top defense of the week, the Houston Texans, only posted two points. That’s not good and I promise to do better for all of you moving forward!

Every week I list my three top streamable defenses that are owned in less than 40-percent of Yahoo and/or ESPN leagues. I also like to include one defense that is owned in less than 10-percent of leagues to assure that one of our three defenses are available in as many leagues as possible. The article drops every Tuesday night on our website. You can find last week’s results below and past week’s results at the bottom of the article.

Week 7 Results

Houston Texans vs. Oakland Raiders - 2 points

Detroit Lions vs. Minnesota Vikings - -4 points

New York Giants vs. Arizona Cardinals - 10 points

Week 8 Steamable Defenses

Detroit Lions vs. New York Giants - Owned in 9% of Yahoo and 5% of ESPN leagues

Despite trading starting safety Quandre Diggs to the Seattle Seahawks, I still really like the Lions’ defense this week. First off, the Giants have given up the third most fantasy points to opposing defenses. I was high on the Lions’ defense last week, after posting back-to-back quality performances to the Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers. They really let us down last week with -4 points against the red hot Minnesota Vikings. They get their chance to rebound this week with the Giants. Prior to last week’s game, the Lions recorded two-or-more turnovers in four straight games this season. Heck, the sub-par Cardinals’ defense posted 14 points last week against the Giants on the back of eight sacks, an interception and two fumble recoveries. Prior to that Giants gave up 27 points to the Patriots’ defense, 12 points to the Vikings’ defense, nine points to Washington’s defense and eight points to the Buccaneers’ defense, dating back to Week 3.

Indianapolis Colts vs. Denver Broncos - Owned in 14% of Yahoo and 16.6% of ESPN leagues

The Denver Broncos are hanging it up for the year. They’ve dealt veteran wide-out Emmanuel Sanders to the 49ers, removing an element of their offense. The Colts’ defense has actually posted their two highest fantasy points of the year in arguably their toughest games. In Week 5 they posted 10 points against the Kansas City Chiefs and in Week 7 they posted nine points against the Houston Texans. They now get the Broncos who have given up the eighth most points to opposing defenses. Now throw in a defense that has recorded a turnover in all but one game this season and has a combined seven sacks of the last two weeks, that’s a recipe for success. The Colts have also recorded four sacks three times thus far this season.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Tennessee Titans - Owned in 3% of Yahoo and 2.2% of ESPN leagues

The Buccaneers’ defense started the season on a high note, but have since come back to reality just a bit. They’re recorded a total of one fantasy point over the last two weeks after posting 44 over the first four weeks. The Titans have given up the 12th most fantasy points to opposing defenses. The Titans’ offense averages just 16.1 points-per-game, which is 26th worst in the league. The Titans don’t give the ball away often, as they rank near the bottom of the league in that category, but they do allow their quarterback to get sacked. They’ve allowed 4.4 sacks per game, which is the worst in the league. Tampa doesn’t get to the quarterback too often, but the Titans’ offensive line is horrible.
