Man oh man. That was not pretty. Although our top suggestion ,the Las Vegas Raiders, had a decent outing against the New York Jets, our other two suggestions were far from a success. I also fell outside of the top five of overall fantasy football defenses with my combined top options. I’m not happy about that. I’ll have to hit a homerun this week to get back into the top five.
The premise of this article is to bring forth three streamable defenses that fantasy football players should look to use for that respective week. To qualify for this series, defenses must be owned in less than 40-percent of Yahoo and/or ESPN leagues. At least one of the suggested defenses will be owned in less than 10-percent of Yahoo and/or ESPN leagues to cater to every fantasy player. You can find last week’s results below and previous week’s results at the bottom of this article.
The Las Vegas Raiders were our top option in Week 13. They played the New York Jets, for obvious reasons on why I picked them, and posted eight fantasy points on three sacks, an interception and two fumble recoveries. Pro tip here, play any defense that plays the New York Jets. The Tennessee Titans’ defense was lit up by Baker Mayfield and company in route to a negative-two-point fantasy performance. The Titans allowed 41 points to the Browns. The San Francisco 49ers had a sack and a fumble recovery while allowing 34 points. They scored just two fantasy points.
Week 13 Results
Las Vegas Raiders at New York Jets - 8 points
Tennessee Titans vs. Cleveland Browns - -2 points
San Francisco 49ers vs. Buffalo Bills - 2 points
Week 14 Suggestions
Carolina Panthers vs. Denver Broncos - Owned in 8% of Yahoo and 4.1% of ESPN leagues
For the second straight week, my owned in less than 10-percent of leagues suggestion is also my top suggestion of the week. Prior to their bye, the Panthers’ defense posted back-to-back performances of 17 and 19 fantasy points against the Lions and Vikings respectively. The Broncos have allowed the second most fantasy points to opposing defenses, second to only the New York Jets.
Dallas Cowboys at Cincinnati Bengals - Owned in 16% of Yahoo and 9.8% of ESPN leagues
First off, the Bengals have allowed the fifth most fantasy points to opposing defenses. In the two games without Joe Burrow, the Bengals’ defense has allowed nine and 14 fantasy points to the Giants and Dolphins respectively. I know the Cowboys’ defense is far from good but this is one of those situations where whomever plays the Bengals at this point of the season is a must play defensively in fantasy.
Washington Football Team at San Francisco 49ers - Owned in 24% of Yahoo and 40.9% of ESPN leagues
I hate to do this as a 49ers’ fan but the reality is there. The 49ers have allowed the eighth most fantasy points to opposing defenses. On top of that, they’ve allowed four, 14 and 14 fantasy points over their last three games. They’re turning the ball over at a high clip and with Nick Mullens under center, I don’t see that stopping anytime soon. Washington averages three sacks-per-game, good enough for third most in the league. They also have 11 interceptions on the season. Expect a couple of takeaways on Sunday.
