Streamable Defenses of the Week - Week 7

Writer's picture: Nate (@WeKnowFantasy)Nate (@WeKnowFantasy)

Another middle-of-the-road type of week. Our suggestions were serviceable but no homerun type of production like we’ve seen early in this season. We are still a top five DST across the first six weeks of the season, which is what we strive for. Our middle suggestion is still the DST14. I’m ashamed of what our under 10-percent owned suggestion has been doing, but one big week will change all of that. As we get further into the season it’s harder and harder to find those homerun type of picks because we already know what defenses are solid and which one’s aren’t. Many are already over that 40-percent owned mark. However, back to the lab, let’s hit a homerun in Week 7!

If you’re anything like me, you don’t draft a defense, or wait until your very last pick. I always find it more important to use earlier selections on position players as you can find great value on the waiver wire each week for defenses. I will also keep a running total of my top, second and below 10-percent results and provide a ranking of where my results rank according to other defenses throughout the season.

The premise of this article is to bring forth three streamable defenses that fantasy football players should look to use for that respective week. To qualify for this series, defenses must be owned in less than 40-percent of Yahoo and/or ESPN leagues. At least one of the suggested defenses will be owned in less than 10-percent of Yahoo and/or ESPN leagues to cater to every fantasy player. You can find last week’s results below and previous week’s results at the bottom of this article.

The Packers held the Bears to just 14 points while sacking Justin Fields four times and intercepted him once. The Bengals had a favorable matchup with the Detroit Lions. The Bengals allowed just 11 points while recording one sack and an interception. The Jaguars recorded three fantasy points in route to their first victory of the season,

Week 6 Results

Green Bay Packers at Chicago Bears - 7 points

Cincinnati Bengals at Detroit Lions - 7 points

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Miami Dolphins - 3 points

Overall Results

Top Suggestion - 53 points (DST4)

Middle Suggestion - 36 points (DST14)

Under 10% Owned - 17 points (DST31)

Week 7 Suggestions

Las Vegas Raiders vs. Philadelphia Eagles - Owned in 14% of Yahoo and 27% of ESPN leagues

I’m not in love with any streamable defense this week and that’s a battle you will face when going the streaming route. You get these bye weeks where six teams are on byes and matchups just don’t fall into our favor. I’m going to go with the Las Vegas Raiders as my top option this week against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Raiders’ defense is coming off of their best performance of the season against the Broncos. They recorded five sacks, two interceptions and one fumble recovery. The Eagles have allowed the 15th most fantasy points to opposing defenses. Like I said, options aren’t the best but I’ m hoping this Raiders’ defense will ride a high as the Eagles, who are struggling, come to town.

Washington Football Team at Green Bay Packers - Owned in 39% of Yahoo and 36% of ESPN leagues

An interesting suggestion here, right? The Washington Football Team was one of the most anticipated defenses coming into the season but just haven’t performed as they did last season. They’re still a solid unit that has some good pieces, and that should count for something. Here they are in Week 7 owned in less than 40-percent of leagues and facing off with the Green Bay Packers. Now, with the way Aaron Rodgers and company is playing, this isn’t the most ideal matchup. The Packers have allowed the seventh fewest fantasy points on the season, and that includes that god awful Week 1. We’re hoping some of the talent on this Washington side gets to Rodgers a few times and records at least one interception. That would be nice.

New York Jets at New England Patriots - Owned in 1% of Yahoo and 1.4% of ESPN leagues

Am I losing my mind? Maybe. Am I desperate? Yes. The options get a little worse as we get this far into the article. Yes, you read that right; the New York Jets. The Jets? Why would I say such a thing? Honestly, I lost my mind a while ago, allow me to try and explain myself. They get the Patriots this week who have allowed the 2nd most fantasy points to opposing defenses. On top of that, this defense has scored at least three points in every game thus far this season and has recorded four points three times. I think this defense is a little better than they get credit for. Yes, I just said that. They’ll look to record their first interception of the season this week and tack on to their impressive four fumble recoveries.

Minnesota Vikings at Cincinnati Bengals - 5 points

Jacksonville Jaguars at Houston Texans - -3 points
