Streamable Defenses of the Week - Week 14

It was another great week for the Streamable Defenses of the Week in Week 13! Our top suggestion in the Atlanta Falcons led the way for the first time since Week 11 with a strong 17 fantasy point performance against the New York Jets! Our middle suggestion and less than ten-percent owned suggestion finished with seven points each. Each of our three suggestions are now within the top four of D/STs on the entire season! Let’s keep the ball rolling into Week 14 with the fantasy football playoffs quickly approaching!

I’m one to never invest a high draft stock into team defenses. I play the waiver wire every single week to find my D/ST for the upcoming week. Due to this, I find myself never drafting a defense and waiting for just before the start of Week 1 to grab my first defense of the season. This is where this series comes into play. Every week I will be suggesting my favorite three team defenses that are regularly available on waiver wires across most formats. I will also keep a running total of how my selections measure up across the season below.

The premise of this article is to bring forth three streamable defenses that fantasy football players should look to use for that respective week. To qualify for this series, defenses must be owned in less than 40-percent of Yahoo and/or ESPN leagues. At least one of the suggested defenses will be owned in less than 10-percent of Yahoo and/or ESPN leagues to cater to as many fantasy players as possible. You can find last week’s results below and previous week’s results at the bottom of this article.

The Atlanta Falcons were our top suggestion in Week 13 and they recorded 17 fantasy points. They allowed just six points to the New York Jets while recording four sacks, an interception and two fumble recoveries. Our middle suggestion for Week 13 was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who recorded seven fantasy points by allowing 18 points to the Panthers and recording four sacks and an interception. Our less than ten-percent owned suggestion was the Los Angeles Rams who allowed 19 points to the Browns while recording two sacks and an interception en route to seven fantasy points

Week 13 Results

Atlanta Falcons at New York Jets - 17 Points

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Carolina Panthers - 7 Points

Los Angeles Rams vs. Cleveland Browns - 7 Points

Overall Results

Top Suggestion - 111 Points (D/ST4)

Middle Suggestion - 110 Points (D/ST4)

Under 10% Owned - 132 Points (D/ST2)

Week 14 Suggestions

Houston Texans at New York Jets - Owned in 16% of Yahoo and 14.6% of ESPN Leagues

The Houston Texans’ defense is not great, but has been consistent over the last four weeks. They have allowed at most 27 points to opposing offenses over their last four weeks and that was to Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals. They’ve recorded ten sacks over their last four games as well. The biggest thing is the takeaways. Over their last four games, the Texans’ defense has recorded seven interceptions. Now they get the New York Jets who haven’t scored more than 13 points in their last six games. In their last three outings they have recorded six points against the Bills, 13 against the Dolphins and eight against the Falcons. In other words, that’s not good. The Jets’ quarterback situation is also one of the worst in the league as reports suggest that Zach Wilson is ‘reluctant’ to start for the team in Week 14 despite the team wanting him to. Either way, a perfect storm for the Texans’ defense. The Jets have also allowed the second most fantasy points to opposing defenses.

Green Bay Packers vs. New York Giants - Owned in 21% of Yahoo and 24.6% of ESPN Leagues

I’ve gone back and forth on the order that I wanted to put the Houston Texans and Green Bay Packers in for this article and went in favor of the Texans but I believe it to be real close. The Giants have allowed the most fantasy points to opposing defenses on the season. The combination of Daniel Jones, Tyrod Taylor and Tommy DeVito have been sacked 68 times, which would place them ten more than the NFL’s most sacked quarterback in Sam Howell. Additionally, the Packers have now allowed more than 24 points dating back to Week 5. Most recently they allowed 19 points to the Chiefs, 22 to the Lions and 20 to the Chargers. Three very good offenses there. I think the home run potential may be higher with the Packers but I think the Texans may be a bit safer.

Carolina Panthers at New Orleans Saints - Owned in 5% of Yahoo and 7.9% of ESPN Leagues

Now, my options for this range are very limited this week and that’s how I found myself landed on the Panthers. The Saints’ offense has been bad but did put some things together last week, especially in the second half with that game against the Lions. Carr ended the game banged up but should be in line to start in Week 14. Against a bad Lions’ defense he threw for just 226 yards, one touchdown and an interception. I can make the argument that the Panthers may be a better defense than Detroit, although not by much. The Panthers have also allowed the third fewest fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks as well. It’s not ideal this week but it could be much worse.
