Streamable Defense of the Week - Week 7 (2022)

Last week time wasn’t on my side and I was unable to get a Streamable Defenses of the Week article out and therefore I don’t have a record from last week and I don’t have results to add to my overall results. To keep being able to track that I’m going to add the average of the last five weeks to my overall results to keep going. With all of that being said, let’s see what Week 7 has in store for us.

I’m one to never invest a high draft stock into team defenses. I play the waiver wire every single week to find my D/ST for the upcoming week. Due to this, I find myself never drafting a defense and waiting for just before the start of Week 1 to grab my first defense of the season. This is where this series comes into play. Every week I will be suggesting my favorite three team defenses that are regularly available on waiver wires across most formats. I will also keep a running total of how my selections measure up across the season below.

The premise of this article is to bring forth three streamable defenses that fantasy football players should look to use for that respective week. To qualify for this series, defenses must be owned in less than 40-percent of Yahoo and/or ESPN leagues. At least one of the suggested defenses will be owned in less than 10-percent of Yahoo and/or ESPN leagues to cater to every fantasy player. You can find last week’s results below and previous week’s results at the bottom of this article.

Overall Results

Top Suggestion - 50 Points (DST8)

Middle Suggestion - 23 points (DST30)

Under 10-Percent Owned - 47 Points (DST11)

Week 7 Suggestions

New York Jets at Denver Broncos - Owned in 6% of Yahoo and 2% of ESPN Leagues

I’m very surprised to see that the Jets are still owned so minorly. They’re literally available in 94-percent and 98-percent of Yahoo and ESPN leagues respectively. They have averaged 14 fantasy points over the last three weeks with games against the Steelers, Dolphins and Packers. They get the underwhelming Broncos this week who only average 15.2 points-per-game, which is worst in the entire NFL. The Broncos have also allowed the ninth most fantasy points to opposing defenses. This is as straightforward as it gets.

Miami Dolphins vs. Pittsburgh Steelers - Owned in 18% of Yahoo and 30.8% of ESPN Leagues

To begin with, the Steelers have allowed the tenth most fantasy points to opposing defenses. Now this is a defense in the Dolphins that hasn’t scored a ton of fantasy points but that’s also why they are readily available in the majority of fantasy leagues. They don’t get many take-aways with just an interception and three fumble recoveries on the season but the combination of Kenny Pickett and Mitchell Trubisky have thrown six interceptions on the season which would tie them with the third most of any quarterback this season. That’s part of why the Dolphins’ defense will be coveted this week for those streaming defenses.

Arizona Cardinals vs. New Orleans Saints - Owned in 3% of Yahoo and 2.3% of ESPN Leagues

The Arizona Cardinals have not allowed over 23 points in their last five games and haven’t allowed over 20 points in their last four. They get the New Orleans Saints this week who have allowed the fifth most fantasy points to opposing defenses. It’s unclear who the Saints will field under center this week with Jameis Winston still not 100-percent from his early season injury and Andy Dalton appearing to have picked up a back injury of his own last week. Either way, the Cardinals’ defense is improving every week and the quarterback situation remains less than ideal in New Orleans.
