In the final stop in the United States before heading across-the-pond, LIV Golf takes to the Maridoe Golf Club for this week’s LIV Golf Dallas.
This event served as the host of the Team Championship a season ago but with Michigan and The Cardinal at Saint John’s playing host this season, Dallas slid into the event nine time slot.
Ripper GC and the Australian grouping of Cameron Smith, Marc Leishman, Matt Jones, and Lucas Herbert claimed the 2024 LIV Golf team title here a season ago.
This event too serves as the penultimate stop for those playing in The Open Championship in roughly three weeks time.
From here, LIV Golf will head to the Real Club Valderrama in Spain for LIV Golf Andalucia for a final tune up before The Open Championship.
The Field
Unlike my breakdowns of the PGA Tour, DP World Tour and LPGA tours, we know what we’re getting each and every week on the LIV Golf Tour, bearing injuries.
With that being said, Joaquin Niemann leads the season long points standing by 45 points over Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm, who trails by roughly 49 points.
Legion XIII (Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, Tom McKibbin and Caleb Surratt) currently leads the team points standings by ten points over Crushers GC (Dechambeau, Paul Casey, Charles Howell III and Anirban Lahiri.)
If you’re one to believe those native to the area have a leg-up, this is DeChambeau’s event to win. He currently lives in Grapevine, Texas, a mere 30 minute drive from this week’s venue.
The Course
The Maridoe Golf Club was one brought to life by billionaire Albert Huddleston who wanted to build a golf course worthy of presenting all that is Texas.
As the saying goes ‘everything is bigger in Texas’ and that sure is the case with this golf course.
It is a par-72 at 7,425 yards.
Designed by Steve Smyers, this course was built with the purpose of presenting a stern test to even the best golfers in the world.
Although this golf course is long, finding the fairway is just as important.
Missing the fairway this week will result in the ball finding wiry-native rough which will be nearly impossible to hold the green, or even reach it, from the approach.
The course too presents its challenges in certain holes, with holes such as the par-four tenth hole named the ‘Valley of Death.’ Instead of a sand bunker, this green is guarded by a deep hollow and a lake. One miss hit on the approach and your ball is all but gone.
The par-five second is a monstrous 655-yard hole that is stretched to its limits.
The fun doesn’t stop there as the 18th is a par-four that is the better part of 480-yards. An errant drive can put your ball into the lake and take the trophy out of your hands with it.
Through all of this, the course’s biggest defense is the infamous Texas winds that seem to come-and-go as they please. If the forecast stands true this week, the winds won’t be a factor but again, these winds do as they please. They can pop up out of anywhere.
In all, the Maridoe Golf Club is a honest and tough golf course that offers a bit of authenticity at every turn.
The Weather
As of the time of writing this, Friday currently calls for a 15-percent chance of precipitation as Saturday and Sunday are completely clear with a zero-percent chance of precipitation. It will be hot though. Temperatures are set to begin at 95-degrees on Friday and will rise to 97-degrees come Sunday. Winds will begin at ten miles-per-hour on Friday and will remain steady through Sunday. In all, it will be hot, but a perfect three days for golf.

Carlos Ortiz (+1500)
The hero of the U.S. Open where he finished fourth, having a real shot in claiming the title of the toughest challenge in golf. He placed tenth in his latest outing on LIV Golf in Virginia. Prior to that he placed seventh in Korea, 16th in Mexico and fourth in Miami. He is currently fourth on Tour in birdies, tenth in scrambling, 11th in GIR%, 18th in average driving distance, 19th in putting average and 27th in hit fairway percentage. He’s been knocking on the door this season, it’s time he claims victory.
Sebastian Munoz (+3000)
Per my stats based model, Munoz is my overall favorite to win this week. He is currently second on Tour in hit fairway percentage, sixth in both GIR% and birdies, 14th in putting average, 19th in scrambling and 30th in average driving distance. Munoz placed 15th in his last LIV outing in Virginia. He also placed 20th in Korea, seventh in Mexico, 21st in Miami, fifth in Singapore and sixth in Hong Kong.
Dean Burmester (+3500)
In writing this preview and researching the golf course, Burmester is one of the first names that came to mind. To me, he is one of the best overall fits for this golf course. He is currently second on Tour in average driving distance, fifth in birdies, tenth in putting average, 12th in GIR%, 37th in scrambling and 46th in hit fairway percentage. He placed 23rd in his latest outing in Virginia and prior to that, placed 13th in Korea, 26th in Mexico, 14th in Miami, 29th in Singapore, second in Hong Kong, 12th in Adelaide and fourth in Riyadh.
Thomas Pieters (+5000)
Pieters always pops as my long-shot value play of the week on LIV it seems. He comes into this week in better form than arguably anyone on Tour. He placed fourth in both Virginia and Korea across his last two events coming into this week. He also placed 15th in Mexico. Pieters is currently second on tour in scrambling, ninth in GIR%, tenth in average driving distance, 19th in putting average, 24th in birdies and 45th in hit fairways.
