The waiver wires seem to be thin with value this week, but we dig deep to find you some possible gems to help you stack points and get wins. Tim Stuetzle, LW, Ottawa Senators
Yahoo: 27% Owned
Week 4 Games: vs. EDM, vs. EDM, @WPG & @WPG
This is the “hot hand” pickup of the week, but there is a warning label attached. Stuetzle has three goals, two assists, minus one, six shots-on-goal and two power play points over the past three games. Now, about that warning label; Stuetzle is a minus-six on the season. Ottawa has given up a lot of goals, which could effect Stuetzle’s point totals depending on your league's scoring.
Nick Schmaltz, C/RW, Arizona Coyotes
Yahoo: 18% Owned
Week 4 Games: @STL, @COL, @COL & vs. STL
Schmaltz is averaging nearly 17:00 minutes-per-game and is eligible at center and right wing. He is making the most of it too. With five goals, four assists, plus-three, three power play points and an eye popping 28 shots-on-goal. Ice time - CHECK, eligible at two positions - CHECK and aggressive shooting - CHECK.
Roope Hintz, C/LW, Dallas Stars
Yahoo: 40% Owned
Week 4 Games: vs. CHI, vs. CAR & vs. CAR
In just six games this season, Roope has two goals, five assists, minus-three and 12 shots on goal. Yeah, we don’t like the plus/minus numbers, but he is averaging a point-a-game plus. Dallas has missed a few games due to Covid-19 restrictions. When Hintz has played he has made the most of it.
Connor Murphy, D, Chicago Blackhawks
Yahoo: 30% Owned
Week 4 Games: @DAL, vs. CBJ & vs. CBJ
Ok, his stat lines are not sexy with just two goals and three assists, but he is averaging over 23:00 minutes-a-game. Ice time is opportunity. This is the weekly “long play." Murphy is bound to stack the stat sheet with ice time totals like that. I have found picking up defensemen this season is tough. So, give me the ice time and I’ll cross my fingers for points.
Janes Reiner, G, Carolina Hurricanes
Yahoo: 55% Owned
Week 4 Games: @CBJ, @DAL & @DAL
Yeah he gave up five goals in a loss to the Panthers recently but since taking over as the number-one goalie role with Petr Mrazek needing thumb surgery, he is 4-1 with a 2.75 goals against and .900 save percentage. There is no timetable set for Mrazek’s return!
