B-Team - Week 7

If this isn’t the worst outing in B-Team history, it’s close. It sure was a rough one for us in Week 6. Our runningbacks (Brandon Bolden and Jerick McKinnon) totaled 3.7 points. There’s no way we’re going to get to our 100 point goal with that type of production out of our runningbacks. It also doesn’t help when our quarterback totals just 10.28 points. We did have a few minor bright spots in the likes of Ricky Seals-Jones and T.Y. Hilton. Let’s see what Week 7 has in store for us.

This is a series where I construct a hypothetical fantasy football lineup using players that are owned in less than 40-percent of Yahoo and/or ESPN leagues. The goal of the series is to top 100 PPR fantasy points using the make-shift team. The premise is to show that there is readily available value at all times across most waiver wires. You can find last week’s results below.

Taylor Heinicke sure was a disappointment for us in Week 6. He threw for just 182 yards on 24 completions with one touchdown and one interception. Bolden and McKinnon combined for 9 yards and two receptions for eighth yards. Not great. Tim Patrick caught two-of-five targets for 16 yards. Hilton had a decent debut for the 2021 season catching four balls for 80 yards. Seals-Jones continues to produce in the absence of Logan Thomas, catching four passes for 58 yards and a score. Amon-Ra St. Brown went for 26 yards on five receptions and converted a two-point conversion. The Jaguars’ defense allowed 20 points and had an interception en route to three fantasy points.

Week 6 Results

Taylor Heinicke (Washington Football Team) - 10.28 points

Brandon Bolden (New England Patriots) - 1.2 points

Jerrick McKinnon (Kansas City Chiefs) - 2.5 points

Tim Patrick (Denver Broncos) - 3.6 points

T.Y. Hilton (Indianapolis Colts) - 12 points

Ricky Seals-Jones (Washington Football Team) - 15.8 points

Amon-Ra St. Brown (Detroit Lions) - 9.6 points

Jacksonville Jaguars - 3 points

Total: 57.98 points

Week 7 Lineup

Quarterback

Carson Wentz (Indianapolis Colts) - Owned in 37% of Yahoo and 22.6% of ESPN leagues

Week 7 Matchup: @SF

After a down week against the Titans in Week 3, Wentz has gone on to score at least 17.02 fantasy points across his last three games. He’s thrown two touchdowns in three straight games and hasn’t turned the ball over in that same time span. The Colts get the 49ers this week, who have allowed the 10th most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. This game is also on prime time Sunday Night Football, so we’ll see what Wentz has to offer. For now, I’m lining him up in this makeshift fantasy lineup against my favorite team, the 49ers.

Runningbacks

Devonta Freeman (Atlanta Falcons) - Owned in 32% of Yahoo and 13.4% of ESPN leagues

Week 7 Matchup: vs. Cin

Latavius Murray has already been ruled out of Sunday’s game with the Bengals due to an ankle injury. By default, Devonta Freeman will serve as the Ravens’ lead back, although Le’Veon Bell was recently added to the team from the practice squad and Ty’Son Williams is still rostered. Freeman ran the ball nine times for 53 yards and a score when Murray left the game last week. The Bengals have allowed the 16th most fantasy points to opposing runningbacks. We’ll see what he can do as the “featured” back in Week 7.

Mark Ingram II (Houston Texans) - Owned in 35% of Yahoo and 24.7% of ESPN leagues

Week 7 Matchup: @ARI

Mark Ingram has run the ball 16 and 18 times respectively over the Texans’ last two outings. He didn’t do much with the chances, peaking at 10.10 fantasy points but anyone getting these types of touches and owned in less than 40-percent of leagues needs to be on our B-Team. It would take just a touchdown on top of the yards produced from the carries to really put Ingram over the top and help us out.

Wide Receivers

Rashod Bateman (Baltimore Ravens) - Owned in 30% of Yahoo and 16.5% of ESPN leagues

Week 7 Matchup: vs. Cin

Bateman saw six targets in his NFL debut and caught the attention of Lamar Jackson, who is having himself an impressive start to the season. Jackson stated that Bateman “doesn’t look like a rookie.” With a game under their belt and a connection developing, we can only expect Bateman to improve in his second NFL game. He goes against the Bengals this week, who have allowed the 17th most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers.

Russell Gage (Atlanta Falcons) - Owned in 9% of Yahoo and 9.9% of ESPN leagues

Week 7 Matchup: @MIA

Russell Gage has missed the last three games due to injury and is slated to return to action this week against the Dolphins. The Falcons are in desperate need of a victory and they get the Dolphins, who just gave the Jaguars their first win since Week 1 of 2020. The Dolphins have allowed the third most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers. Let’s hope the Falcons get Gage involved in his return.

Tight End

Evan Engram (New York Giants) - Owned in 30% of Yahoo and 23.6% of ESPN leagues

Week 7 Matchup: vs. CAR

Engram has seen at least four targets in each of his last four games and has seen at least five in three of them. He hasn’t done a whole lot with his targets, as he hasn’t scored a touchdown yet this season. As the Giants continue to struggle with injuries, Engram remains one of the constant parts of this offense. This week may be the week that he breaks through and finds the endzone, or at least, we can hope.

Flex

Amon-Ra St. Brown (Detroit Lions) - Owned in 18% of Yahoo and 18.7% of ESPN leagues

Week 7 Matchup: @LAR

I’m scared to play St. Brown this week as he could see coverage from Jalen Ramsey, but I do like the opportunities he’s seen over his last three games. He’s seen at least seven targets over the Lions’ last three games and eight in two of them. He still has yet to score a touchdown but with the number of targets he’s getting, that’s inevitable. Let’s roll with St. Brown for our second straight week, it’s time he scores a touchdown.

Defense

Las Vegas Raiders - Owned in 29% of Yahoo and 24.9% of ESPN leagues

Week 7 Matchup: vs. PHI

The Raiders’ defense is coming off of their best performance of the season against the Broncos. They recorded five sacks, two interceptions and one fumble recovery. The Eagles have allowed the 15th most fantasy points to opposing defenses. I’ m hoping this Raiders’ defense will ride a high as the Eagles, who are struggling, come to town.

Las Vegas Raiders - 4 points

Total: 97 points

Week 4 Results

Tyler Conklin (Minnesota Vikings) - 5.8 points

Chester Rogers (Tennessee Titans) - 11.3 points

Dallas Cowboys - 8 points

Total: 106.14 points

Trey Lance (San Francisco 49ers) - 15.58 points

Samaje Perine (Cincinnati Bengals) - 18.3 points

Khalil Herbert (Chicago Bears) - 7.5 points
