B-Team - Week 10

https://www.sbnation.com/2019/10/21/20924761/ryan-tannehill-titans-offense-quarterback-changes-marcus-mariota

I’ve now posted back-to-back quality performances on the B-Team. If I used kickers in this series, we would be very close to the 100 point mark, but since I don’t use kickers in my leagues, I don’t like to use them in this series. It’s been promising recently, which is odd as we’re late into the season and waiver options are not as fruitful as they once were. The B-Team series is one where I create a hypothetical fantasy football lineup consisting of players owned in less than 40% of Yahoo and/or ESPN leagues. The goal of the series is to score 100 fantasy points with the made-up team to show that there is regularly available value on your waiver wire at all times and a competent fantasy football player can find it.

I was able to find some form of value out of the running back position this week as J.D. McKissic went for 16.2 points. To bad Alexander Maddison went for just 0.6 points. In all, it was a good week for me, as I went for 82.6 fantasy points, posting back-to-back 82+ fantasy point weeks. DeVante Parker did well for me again with 15.7 fantasy points but finally went beyond the 40% owned mark so I can no longer use him in the series. Zach Pascall was my lead scorer on the week with 18.6 point, and too is now owned in over 40% of leagues. Let’s see how I did in all last week below. You can see how I’ve done in past weeks at the bottom of this article.

Week 9 Results

QB: Sam Darnold (New York Jets) - 13.5 points

RB: Alexander Mattison (Minnesota Vikings) - 0.6 points

RB: J.D. McKissic (Detroit Lions) - 16.2 points

WR: DeVante Parker (Miami Dolphins) - 15.7 points

WR: Zach Pascal (Indianapolis Colts) - 18.6 points

TE: Jonnu Smith (Tennessee Titans) - 4.8 points

Flex: Chris Conley (Jacksonville Jaguars) - 5.2 points

DEF: Miami Dolphins - 8 points

Total: 82.6 points

Week 10 Picks

Quarterback

Ryan Tannehill (Tennessee Titans) - Owned in 28% of Yahoo and 17.1% of ESPN leagues

Tannehill is pretty much a consensus break-out play this week across the fantasy football community. He’s thrown for over 300 yards in two of his last three games and gets a match-up with the Kansas City Chiefs, who have allowed the 10th most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. With Patrick Mahomes set to play on Sunday, we can assume the Titans to be playing from behind. This would require Tannehill and company to play from behind, having to throw the ball to keep pace.

Running Backs

Trey Edmunds (Pittsburgh Steelers) - Owned in 3% of Yahoo and 4.4% of ESPN leagues

The Pittsburgh Steelers will be without James Conner and Benny Snell for the second straight week. Last week, Edmunds saw 12 carries against the Indianapolis Colts’ defense and went for 73 yards. He gets the Rams this week who have allowed the 18th most fantasy points to opposing running backs. We can assume that Jaylen Samuels will once again lead the team in touches just as he did last week with 21, but as Edmunds played a big part last week, he should be heavily involved again this week.

J.D. McKissic (Detroit Lions) - Owned in 18% of Yahoo and 15% of ESPN leagues

After I finally found running back value last week in McKissic, I just had to go with him again this week. He saw just four carries last week, but his real value came in the passing game where he caught three of four targets for 40 yards and a touchdown. Dating back to last year, the Bears have been very good against pass catching running backs, such as McKissic. However, I feel like those numbers may be skewed as this year’s defense is not what it was last year. Right now, the Bears have allowed the eighth most fantasy points to opposing running backs this year.

Wide Receivers

A.J. Brown (Tennessee Titans) - Owned in 27% of Yahoo and 21.1% of ESPN leagues

I’m going to stack Ryan Tannehill with A.J. Brown here. I know statistically speaking, the match-up isn’t ideal as the Chiefs’ have allowed the 26th most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers, but the 10th most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. If I’m betting on Tannehill to succeed to this week, someone is going to have to catch the ball. Let’s hope that’s A.J. Brown, who has seen seven-plus targets in two of his last three games, is heavily involved. He’s topped 12 fantasy points in those two games as well.

Josh Reynolds (Los Angeles Rams) - Owned in 10% of Yahoo and 7.4% of ESPN leagues

With the combination of Bradin Cooks set to miss Sunday’s game with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Roberts Woods’ under performing play thus far this season, I really like Reynolds. Reynolds played well last year late in the season when Cooper Kupp went down with an ACL injury. Now, he gets the chance to do the same in a short-term capacity with Cooks out with a concussion. The Rams have also been struggling to their standards and are fresh off a bye. I’m expecting them to have a huge statement week this week and hopefully Reynolds is involved in that.

Tight End

Mike Gesicki (Miami Dolphins) - Owned in 33% of Yahoo and 8.8% of ESPN leagues

Gericki has been one of the biggest risers as of late in fantasy football. He’s gone from unknown to 33-percent owned in Yahoo. Part of that has to do with a 6 reception, 95 yard game last week against the New York Jets. Now, the Dolphins and Gesicki get the Colts, who have allowed the seventh most fantasy points to opposing tight ends.

Flex

Chester Rogers (Indianapolis Colts) - Owned in 2% of Yahoo and 0.4% of ESPN leagues

The Colts will be without T.Y. Hilton and Parris Campbell on Sunday, leaving Zach Pascall and Chester Rogers as their top two options against the Dolphins. The Dolphins have allowed the 11th most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers.

Defense

New York Giants - Owned in 39% of Yahoo and 17.6% of ESPN leagues

Last week, the New York Jets’ offense allowed the Miami Dolphins’ defense to score eight fantasy points, literally doubling their season total. Prior to their game with the Cowboys last week, the Giants’ defense posted 12, 10 and eight fantasy points against the Patriots, Cardinals and Lions respectively. Sam Darnold has also thrown 12 interceptions over the four games. This looks good for the Giants.
